From the Amazon to the Workbench: The Organic Beauty of Acai

There is something deeply satisfying about working with materials that have a story before they even reach the studio. My latest project features a standout organic element: Acai beads.

While most of us know acai as a superfood, these vibrant, earthy seeds are also a staple of sustainable artistry. Harvested from the Euterpe precatoria palm in the Amazon rainforest, they are a beautiful example of nature’s own craftsmanship.

Why Acai?
What makes these beads so compelling is their perfect imperfection.

Unique Texture: Unlike mass-produced synthetic beads, no two acai seeds are identical. You can see the natural “veins” and striations on the surface (especially visible on the patterned bead in the photo), giving every piece a rugged, tactile quality.

Sustainable Soul: They are eco-friendly and biodegradable. Using them feels like a small way to stay connected to the environment while creating something new.

The Palette: They take dyes beautifully, ranging from soft, muted pastels to deep, olive earth tones.

What’s Coming Next?
I’ve been experimenting with how these organic shapes interact with more structured materials. The contrast between the matte, slightly porous surface of the acai and the slicker finishes on my workbench is creating some really interesting visual tension.

I’m currently pairing these seeds with wire to create pieces that feel both ancient and modern. They have a wonderful weight to them—substantial enough to feel high-quality, but light enough for comfortable, all-day wear.
I’m not quite ready to reveal the finished designs just yet, but these little seeds are the “roots” of the entire collection. Stay tuned—nature is taking the lead on this one!
