When the Wind Blows: A Lesson in Resilience

Last Saturday, I was all set up at the Hamilton Farmers Market, ready to showcase my latest glass art creations. The wind, however, had other plans. It was a blustery day, and I found myself battling against gusts that threatened to sweep my delicate pieces right off the table.
Then, disaster struck. A particularly forceful wind gust knocked over one of my display shelves, sending my carefully arranged artwork crashing to the ground. In that moment, I felt a mix of frustration and despair. But before I could fully succumb to disappointment, two kind vendors rushed over to help me clean up the mess.

As I surveyed the damage, another vendor offered a sympathetic “worse day.” But instead of dwelling on the negative, I found myself responding, “Sometimes things break so they can be put back together differently.”
This unexpected incident has taught me a valuable lesson about resilience and creativity. While it was disheartening to see my hard work shattered, it also presented an opportunity for renewal. Perhaps the broken pieces could be reimagined into something entirely new and beautiful.

In the end, the wind may have caused temporary setbacks, but it couldn’t extinguish my passion for creating. I’m grateful for the support of my fellow vendors and the unexpected silver lining that emerged from this challenging experience.

Note: This story has been saved in my drafts for a while.  It didn’t just happen.
