A Glass Orchid Odyssey

In my early twenties, while working in a shopping mall in Ithaca, New York, I stumbled upon a sight that would forever captivate my heart: a breathtaking display of towering orchids at Bath & Body Works. These magnificent blooms, reaching over ten feet tall, were a sight to behold. As a lover of orchids, I couldn’t resist asking the manager what would happen to them once the display was changed. To my delight, she offered to give them to me!

For years, these two large pink orchids graced my bedroom, creating a truly magical atmosphere. Unfortunately, when I moved, I had to part with them, giving them to a friend. Over a decade later, I’ve been yearning to bring that same beauty back into my life.

For the past few years, I’ve been contemplating the idea of creating a large glass orchid plant, complete with a pot. The sheer amount of glass involved would be a significant undertaking, requiring careful planning and execution. I’d need to figure out how to construct the pot and stems to ensure they are both structurally sound and aesthetically pleasing.

Recently, I came across posts from another artist who had already created lifelike glass orchids. While this was initially disheartening, it also fueled my determination to create something unique and different. I believe that my own glass orchid project would have a distinct character, reflecting my personal style and vision.

So, despite the challenges ahead, I’m leaning towards embracing this ambitious project. The prospect of crafting a stunning glass orchid, a testament to my love for these beautiful flowers, is too enticing to resist. Stay tuned for updates on my progress as I embark on this glassy orchid odyssey!
